𝐀 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬, 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐧𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬!
It was an overwhelming sight at the World Book Fair 2023 in New Delhi. Visiting a book fair is a different experience. The kind that we don’t get in the bookshop. In a book fair, there is variety and diversity in every way.
For instance, I saw a hoard of 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 at this ongoing book fair. I grew up reading books and comics in Hindi and seeing these books took me down memory lane. I was glad to see more titles for people who love to read in their own language.
The Children’s Pavilion has book stalls lined with fun and appealing titles. A 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧 apart from comics.
Had I not gone to the book fair, I might not have discovered some 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐞𝐬. I was pleasantly surprised to discover 𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬. I’d always assumed picture books are for kids. (𝑰 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒑𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒅 𝒖𝒑 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝒊𝒕 𝒊𝒏 10 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒖𝒕𝒆𝒔.)
I also chanced upon a book with an intriguing cover page— Pope Francis and Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, together. Curious by nature, I enquired about the book and had a detailed discussion on the importance of 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫-𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞 for peace.
With India hosting the 𝐆20 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭 this time, numerous books from member countries were displayed. There were books from Russia, France, Turkey, and other countries.
Next time you get a chance to visit a Book Fair, do not miss.
