How did Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi become Mahatma Gandhi?

His autobiography, My Experiments with Truth, offers a glimpse into the formative years of one of India’s most prominent figures.

It covers the period from his birth (1869) to the year 1921, describing his childhood and school days to his early marriage, years in England and his legal career, Gandhi candidly shares the experiences that shaped his life and thinking.

I simply want to tell the story of my numerous experiments with truth…

Gandhi never intended to write a conventional autobiography. As he puts it, “It is not my purpose to attempt a real autobiography. I simply want to tell the story of my numerous experiments with truth, and as my life consists of nothing but those experiments, it is true that the story will take the shape of an autobiography.”

In the last chapter, he noted, “My life from this point onward has been so public that there is hardly anything about it that people do not know.”

This book deserves a place on everyone’s reading list.
